BIM, Prefabrication, And The Real Work Behind The Buzz

In 2026, prefabrication is not a novelty topic anymore. It is where a lot of the real work in our industry is happening.

Owners are pushing for more certainty. Schedules keep tightening. The AI and data center wave is hitting hard, with big questions around labor, materials, power, and how we keep people actually thinking instead of just clicking whatever the software suggests.

That is why I am heading to Advancing Prefabrication 2026 with our team at BIMTM and spending some time with EVOLVE. I am not going to this conference just to see shiny tools. I want to see how people are really connecting BIM, prefabrication, and the field so that projects move faster and stay buildable in the middle of all this change.

What I Am Hoping To Learn

I have not been to Advancing Prefabrication before, so I am going in with fresh eyes and a pretty specific agenda.

I am most interested in three things:

  1. How teams are speeding up BIM to prefab workflows
Not in theory, but in practice. How are contractors cutting the lag between “we modeled it” and “the shop can actually build this.” What are people doing to reduce back and forth, manual cleanup, and painful last minute adjustments.
  1. How they keep models accurate and constructible
A beautiful, clash free model is meaningless if it cannot be built or if it is missing the information the prefab shop and field crews actually need to be successful. I am looking for real examples of standards, checklists, and feedback loops that keep the digital and physical worlds lined up.
  1. How they are handling the speed of change
Tools, expectations, and project types are shifting fast, especially with AI and the surge in data centers. I want to hear how companies are balancing efficiency gains from technology with the risk of losing practical judgment on project teams. Software should help people build better, not replace their ability to think.

How BIMTM Fits Into The Conversation

At BIMTM, our role on projects usually boils down to three things:  process, coordination, and people.

We help set up and run the workflows that connect design, BIM, prefab, and the field. We spend a lot of time making sure the right people talk at the right time, that expectations are clear, and that the model is being used as a tool instead of a box to check.

When we are partnered with EVOLVE, the split looks something like this:

  • BIMTM focuses on process, coordination, and people
  • EVOLVE’s tools support efficient modeling, streamline extractions, and produce spool drawings
  • The contractor ends up with an effective system, accurate and smart data, and information that is actually useful for the prefab shop and field teams

For us, BIM is the connective tissue between many parts of a project. It can tie together design intent, constructability, prefab planning, installation, and eventually operations. But it only works if you use it correctly. When BIM is treated as an afterthought, it becomes a source of frustration and a very expensive way to recreate the same mistakes in 3D.

People matter just as much as the technology. Knowing how to build is just as important (or probably more important) as knowing the software. The best outcomes come from teams that respect both.

Who We Hope To Meet In Dallas

For this event, BIMTM is especially interested in connecting with:

  • Subcontractors who see the value in doing BIM and prefab right and want a partner to help them get there faster than figuring it all out alone. If you are in a small to medium size company who has struggled getting value out of BIM or you aren’t sure where to start, lets talk!
  • CMs and GCs who want tighter clash detection and coordination and understand how much risk they can remove by getting BIM right up front
  • Leaders who are wrestling with AI and data center driven work and are trying to balance speed, labor, material constraints, and sustainability
  • Future team members who care about coordination, like solving problems with other humans, and want to be part of a group that takes quality seriously without taking itself too seriously. We are looking for the right kind of people to join our team! And if you aren’t attending Advancing Prefabrication this year, you can still check out our open opportunities HERE.

We are not the cheapest option in the market. We are looking for companies that understand the value of fewer surprises, less rework, and a calmer project team.

Come Find Us At The Show

If you will be at Advancing Prefabrication 2026, I would love to connect in person.

  • Visit BIMTM at Booth 32
  • Visit EVOLVE at Booth 09

We will have some “Bearly Coordinated” t-shirts designed by our partners at RFI Outfitters, informational postcards for BIM Accelerate and BIMTM services, keyboard shortcut cards, bumper stickers, and some other swag. More importantly, we will be there to talk about what is working, what is not, and how we can help you tighten the connection between BIM, prefab, and the field.

If you are trying to navigate all the change hitting our industry and want to talk with people who live in that space every day, come say hi. We’d love to meet you!
